Recently there have been two significant developments regarding safeguarding in the Church of England:
First, the House of Bishop’s safeguarding guidance is gradually being replaced by a new Safeguarding Code. This code is more explicit that clergy and PCCs must comply with the mandatory requirements.
Second, the Church of England has published five National Safeguarding Standards, against which parishes are asked to evaluate their progress.
To support parishes with these changes, the Safeguarding Dashboard is being upgraded. The aim is to help clergy and PCCs:
- To more easily distinguish between mandatory requirements and good practice.
- To evaluate the progress that a parish has made towards the safeguarding standards.
Each diocese has its own timetable for implementing these new features during the Autumn.
At the same time, a few new dashboard lights are being added to the dashboard.
